Scots on the Rocks Regatta

Lake Murray Sailing Club (LMSC) and Flying Scot Fleet 158, located on beautiful Lake Murray, invite you to participate in our annual Scots on the Rocks regatta and our Friday, August 30^th, Greg Fisher Performance Clinic. (See 6.0 Schedule of Events)

 

Open to all Flying Scot sailors, the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and FSSA rules will govern this regatta except as amended by this NOR and the regatta sailing instructions.  Please note the following rule amendments and other relevant information included in the Sailing Instructions:

 

1.0 Rules

1.1 Rule 44.1 is modified by Appendix V1 as follows

              A boat may take a One-Turn penalty when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 or rule 32 in an incident while racing.  However, when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 while in the zone around a mark other than a starting mark, her penalty shall be a Two-Turns penalty.  This changes RRS rule 44.1.

 

1.2 The Start

              A boat starting later than 4 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start (DNS) without a hearing for that race. This is an addition to rules 35, and A5

 

1.3 Time Limit
             Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat in the class sails the course and finishes will be scored TLE (Time Limit Expired) and will be scored two more places than the last place finisher in its class without a hearing.  This changes RRS 35, A10 and is an addition to A5.

 

1.4 Protests and Requests for Redress

              A boat intending to protest about an infraction shall notify the RC race committee finish boat of her intention, including the sail number of the boat(s) being protested.  This is in addition to RRS 61.1(a).

 

2.0 Registration

2.1         The registration fee is $70 per boat and includes dinner on Saturday night for helmsman and one crew, complimentary continental breakfast each day, and Sunday lunch.  Competitors may order Saturday lunches at $7 per person. A catered dinner is planned for Saturday evening. Additional dinners may be purchased at $18 per person. Fee for the Greg Fisher Performance Clinic is $20 and includes the post clinic Patio Pizza Party.  Friday Lunches may be ordered at $7 per person.  Clinic non-participants may join the Pizza Party for a fee of $5 per person.

 

2.2         Competitors may register on the Lake Murray Sailing Club website.

 

2.3          All completed registration forms and fee payment must be received by the close of the registration period on Saturday, August 31^st.

 

2.4          Advance registration is required.  Competitors should pay regatta fees at the registration desk on Saturday, August 31^st or Friday, August 30^th, if attending the performance clinic.

 

3.0 Scoring

3.1          Five (5) races are planned.  One (1) race is required to constitute a regatta.

3.2          The Low Point scoring system of Appendix A will apply except that a boat’s final score shall be the sum of all races with no score excluded.  This changes rule A2.

 

 

4.0 Courses

4.1          The courses are Windward/Leeward with the Start/Finish line between the Windward and Leeward marks.  The Start/Finish line is open for competitors sailing the course.

 

4.2          Course 3 – Start, Windward mark (1) rounded to port, offset (1A) rounded to port, Leeward mark (2) rounded to port, Finish (Upwind)

 

4.3          Course 5 – Start, Windward mark (1) rounded to port, offset (1A) rounded to port, Leeward mark (2) rounded to port, Windward mark (1) rounded to port, offset (1A) rounded to port, Leeward mark (2) rounded to port, Finish (Upwind)

 

5.0 Sailing Instructions
               Detailed sailing instructions will be available online or at the registrar’s desk on the day of registration.

6.0 Schedule of Events

7.0 Awards

           Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers.
